About

A few years ago, when I was asked to collaborate on a book of poetry and photography, using my photographs, something clicked, and I decided it was time to refocus my energy on photography. I spent years teaching drama and English to high school students, running 2 non-profits, and teaching leadership to college students, before becoming a laughter professional and eventually returning my attention to artistic endeavors. I never stopped taking pictures since college when I first started exploring the world through a camera lens. On the dedication page of the first photography & poetry book I created, in 1977, I wrote, "A true poet causes you to create many poems after reading only one of his." I feel the same way today about my photographs and paintings. I love sharing what I see. That’s why I created this shop, to give others an opportunity to see the world 'Through Sarah’s Eyes'. As I began to play with paint pouring in the last year, I became mesmerized by watching the paint move and the image transform from one instant to the next. I can't imagine painting without my camera fully charged and within reach. One painting easily becomes many as I watch the flow of paint as it glides over the surface and changes. I'm often surprised by the things I 'see' emerge from the painting. Sometimes creatures, hearts, trees, and other things jump out at me from a painting or from the image I've captured in my camera. I merely record what I see. As a photography and poetry student, I studied Minor White, who combined photographs and words. I've always enjoyed weaving the two together. Vincent van Gogh said, “One can speak poetry just by arranging colors well.” I try to write poetry with my painting. And sometimes I add words, though I tend to enjoy hearing what others find the painting suggests without any influence from me. It's important to me to be sustainable-I try to use and incorporate found and discarded objects as much as possible. Enjoy. I hope you are inspired.
