As a young typist I was impressed with an exercise one day in class. We were given a pattern using X and O, and at the end of the lessen I had a beautiful boat created out of text - this started my journey with seeing text as art. From humble beginnings I have progressed to text mandalas and also using text for affirmation / motivation / focus work.
