About
Skating, punk, thrash, death metal, and Glow in the Dark Monster Model kits: all allies in warping the creative mind of Los Angeles artist Mike Fisher. Operating under the banner of MaximumFluoride for more than a decade Fisher has adorned posters, shirts, stickers, and decks with his macabre imaginings. Aside from various windows, poles, and walls, Mike’s work has appeared in the Art of Electric Frankenstein, The Art of Modern Rock, Royal Flush, I Want Your Skull, as well as a brief feature on MTV. Check the metal and punk sections at your local music store or your local Hot Topic and your bound to find releases bearing his mark.
Hailing from San Jose, California, Fisher became addicted to skating upon receiving his first board at age 10. Soon after he came across his first fateful issue of Thrasher. Flipping through its pages, the bloody visions of Pushead and Marc Rude provided endless fascination. Combined with his burgeoning love of the Hardcore Punk scene, these dark images reawakened his artistic urges. Fisher had no choice but to create artwork for hardcore bands.
Fisher began simply at first making b/w flyers for friends until he finally formed his own outfit, No Warning. Pulling double duty as singer and artist, Fisher promoted the band with his grisly scribbles culminating in the cover of their Not Even One EP.
Fisher’s second pulp epiphany occurred when a friend brought him an early issue of Juxtapoz. Inside he saw a spread for the poster work of Frank Kozik. More than just a gig poster, Fisher saw Kozik’s images as signifying something larger, underground, and dangerous. He wanted in.
With long time friend Mike Murphy manning the printing, Fisher jumped back into his first passion and created several screen printed posters in 1996. Resolved to leave video games behind, Fisher started MaximumFluoride Killustration (and later Wrecking Crew Studios) and began soliciting bands over the Internet for work. Often sending 60 emails a day to those whose music matched his aesthetic. Slowly but surely, word of Mike’s unique brand of madness spread as he garnered work from labels such as Sony, Relapse, and Metalblade as well as bands including Intronaut, Cattle Decapitation, The Clash, Led Zeppelin, Misfits, and more. A respected artist with an unparalleled drive to succeed, Mike will to continue his graphic aggression for years to come.
After over 15 years of creating art for underground metal and punk bands Mike can honestly lay claim to having worked with almost every band that matters.
