Lady's Thumb Pink Wildflower Floral Postcard

Lady's Thumb/ Spotted Lady's Thumb, or Polygonum persicaria (syn. Persicaria maculosa), or Redshank, is a member of the Buckwheat family (Polygonaceae). In Shenandoah National Park it blooms from July to October. This little flower likes moist to wet ground, meadows, stream banks, and roadsides. It possesses a number of medicinal properties, and has been traditionally used in poultices to relieve rheumatic pain, to heal wounds, to arrest bleeding or in infusion to help relieve stomach ache. They are a reliable food source for many animals, including birds and mammals.
