One of our more common snakes, the Eastern Garter Snake is a pretty, patterned snake that grows to (at best) about two feet long. They are a benefit to us and should not be harmed or feared. They primarily eat small rodents and amphibians, their bite is not venomous, and they are not aggressive. They will avoid people when possible. Consider yourself fortunate to see one, enjoy it, and leave it in it's home.
