WWII Underground Bunker at Fort Swatzka Postcard

From the outside there doesn't seem to be much to the bunkers made of fortified concrete which were buried all over Unalaska Island to provide secure storage for weapons and safe shelter for troops. This bunker is located on Ulakta Head, which is the north end of Ballyhoo Mountain, and the headland faces the mouth of the bay. Fort Swatzka was built on Ulakta Head to provide a first line of defence for the military centre of operations for the Campaign of the Aleutians located in Dutch Harbour, Alaska. This bunker is one of many structures which are remnants of Fort Swatzka and which remain as a testimony that the Aleutian Islands were an important part of WWII in preventing invasion of the U.
