World maps became popular after Columbus discovered America in 1492. This detailed world map shows the western hemisphere including North American, Central America and South America, Antarctica and the north pole by Diego Gutiérrez. Published in 1562 with some of the earliest representations on a map of major cities like Mexico City and river systems like the Amazon. The margins have three coat of arms: Portugal, Spain and France. The oceans are filled with fanciful sea serpents that can be found separately on products from our store at Mythological Animals.
