After 9/11, there was a police boat that brought victims’ families from the Family Assistance Centre at the Piers and took them to Ground Zero. Woody rode on that boat twice a week. He knew his job was to be brave and to be strong for the grieving families. Some family members told Woody about their loved one. Some held him and wept. He welcomed the hugs and outreached arms, and he responded to the need to be comforted. He knew they needed him. Woody was a registered Pet Partners therapy animal from 1999 to 2005. www.PetPartners.org
