Women's Suffragette Badge

“Trust in God: She will provide.” So said Emmeline Pankhurst (1858 – 1928), one of the founders of the British Suffragette Movement which fought to win women the right to vote. Mrs Pankhurst’s famous quote is accompanied by the front cover of The Suffragette newspaper published in 1912 by the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU). It shows Joan of Arc, the militant feminists’ ideal woman, carrying the WSPU flag. Joan’s tabard is stamped with the word Justice. Edited by Emmeline’s oldest daughter, Christabel, the cover of the magazine was designed by Hilda Dallas.
