With friends like the Sierra Club, our environment doesn't need enemies. The Clubs refuses to acknowledge the elephant in the room - massive US population growth. When the first Earth Day was held in 1970, there were 203 million Americans. Today there are over 315 million. More than a 50% increase in 4 decades. We can't reduce our consumption and achieve sustainability while wildly adding new consumers. Former club president David Brower understood this, but since then, the cowardice of the Club to take on this issue makes the Club as much a part of the problem as any corporate polluter - because the increase in consumers and the cheap labour of immigrants is exactly what the big corporations want.
