Wishes That Return: Plate RH-WC-B2-009 Poster
Exhibition Description
Wishes That Return captures the moment Roadstand Hollow begins revealing how unfinished journeys may return long before the traveller does. Standing beside the village fountain, Elias looks into the water expecting the familiar reflection of the square. Instead, he sees an impossible railway station beneath pale fog: a waiting bench, empty tracks, and a blue lantern burning where no lantern exists above him. He looks up. The bakery stands exactly where it should. He looks back down. The station is gone. Only ripples remain.
Around him, other small inconsistencies have begun appearing. A bakery sign changes briefly. A window reflects a church located somewhere else. An amber lantern shifts momentarily towards blue. Even familiar conversations seem slightly misplaced in time. None of these moments lasts long enough to become permanent. That is precisely what makes them unsettling.
The watercolor sets ordinary Roadstand Hollow above the surface of the fountain while allowing another remembered landscape to exist beneath it. Warm village architecture meets blue-grey station fog, and the reflected tracks travel farther into the water than the stone basin should physically permit.
Within The Watercolors of Roadstand Hollow, Plate 009 marks another escalation in Book 2's mystery. Memory is no longer merely affecting people or rearranging streets. The past is beginning to appear inside the present. And somewhere within that impossible reflection, a wish is still trying to return.

Symbolism
The fountain represents memory held within a familiar place.
The reflected train station symbolises a journey attempting to return before the traveller himself can.
The blue lantern represents emotional continuity between past and present.
The empty tracks symbolise unfinished travel and the possibility of arrival.
The ripples represent how quickly remembered realities can disappear when examined too closely.

Collection Significance
Plate 009 gives us one of the strongest surreal-but-gentle images in the Book 2 collection. It follows naturally from Plate 008:
Plate 008 — the street physically remembers something that Elias doesn't.
Plate 009 — an ordinary reflection reveals a place that no longer exists.
The Hollow's memory is becoming increasingly visible.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
