About This Design

William Turner - Vesuvius in Eruption Ceramic Tile

Vesuvius in Eruption, painted in 1817-1820 in watercolor on paper by British Romantic painter Joseph Mallord William Turner (J. M. W. Turner). The painting imagines the volcano erupting in a violent burst of fire, smoke and falling material above the Bay of Naples. Turner did not witness the eruption firsthand; the Yale Centre for British Art describes a sheet worked with watercolor, gum and scraping, techniques that intensify the drama of the sublime natural event.

Very happy when my tiles arrived. So good to be able to choose any photo for personal use. The colours are very clear and are far better than I expected.
