William McKinley, Politician, American President Holiday Postcard

William McKinley (January 29, 1843 – September 14, 1901) was the 25th president of the United States. McKinley served from 1897 until his assassination 1901, when he was assassinated. A member of the Republican Party, McKinley led a realignment that made Republicans mostly dominant in the industrial states and national politics for several decades. McKinley triumphantly led the U.S. in the Spanish American War, presiding over a period of American expansion. Annexations included Puerto Rico, Guam, the Philippines, and Hawaii. McKinley was in favour of keeping the nation on the gold standard and famously raised tariffs on imports.
