This greeting card features on its cover a vintage studio portrait of William Dana Crosland, first child of William and Ann (Throop) Crosland and grandson of Edward and Ann (Snead) Crosland. Born July 5, 1843 on the Crosland homestead at Bennettsville, South Carolina, William Dana Crosland joined the Confederate army when just 17 years old. In early 1864, he was taken prisoner and held at Point Lookout Prison. the infamous Union prison in Maryland. There he remained until his negotiated release in February 1865. According to his mother, William Dana never fully recovered from the "injured constitution" that he bore as a legacy from the war. This picture of William Dana taken after the war does indeed show a man with haunted eyes, as though he stares into a far place between sheer terror and stark madness.

This was exactly what was wanted for my piano crazy grandson! He is self taught & is now having lessons by a top teacher and has been asked to play at various venues in the US!
