Weaning the Calves (Cow Farming) Ceramic Tile

This design features a painting by Rosa Bonheur (1822–1899), who was a French artist best known as a painter of animals. It depicts a cow looking at her five calves, who are separated from her by an artificial barrier made of wood, stone and other debris. The image represents the importance of allowing young ones to grow and strengthen themselves, even if it can seem difficult for parents to be separated from them. The animals appear to be in idyllic pastures, with tall majestic mountains rising in the background. There are also five other large cows in the distance, behind the mother cow. The painting might have been inspired by Rosa Bonheur's trip to the Pyrenees mountain range, and the original artwork was painted in 1879.
