John William Waterhouse Ophelia tile. Oil painting on canvas from 1910. English artist John Waterhouse frequently drew on literary themes, and Shakespeare was one of his greatest sources of inspiration. Waterhouse dedicated multiple paintings to Hamlet’s doomed heroine Ophelia. This particular painting features the girl wearing a blue dress with red sleeves and gold embroidery. Ophelia’s hair is auburn and adorned with flowers. She also carries flowers in her skirt as she fatefully steps towards the stream in which she will perish. A great gift for fans of J.W.
