Votes for Women Alice Paul Victory Flag Card

Suffragist leader, Alice Paul, unfurls the "ratification flag" from the balcony of the National Women's Party headquarters in Washington D.C. on August 18, 1920. The 19th Amendment pass congress in June of 1919 but still requires 3/4 of the states to ratify it for it to become law. A star was sewn on the suffrage flag until each of the 36 states needed voted for ratification. On August 18, 1920 Tennessee became the 36th state and on August 26, 1920 it became law.
