The squadron is based at Marine Air Station Miramar, California and falls under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 11 (MAG-11). Currently deployed aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Nimitz CVN-68. Engagements: World War II, Vietnam, Persian Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom & the Iraq War. The squadron was featured in the 1996 Film "Independence Day"
