Vintage Santa Claus Playing the Violin Santa Claus is having great fun in this reproduction of a vintage Christmas card. He's playing a violin as the two children in front of him are holding a candle, reading the sheet music, and singing along with a wonderful Christmas song. At their feet is a bag full of Christmas goodies. Victorian-era Santa Claus was often depicted interacting with children, where these days, Santa only comes when the children are tucked tight in their beds. The vintage Santa card is from the mid-1800s, when Santa was depicted by illustrators as a bit thinner. In this wonderful image, Santa has a red cloak, but a green hat, but not the pointy hat we've become familiar with in this era -- instead, it's surrounded by leaves.
