Vintage - Puppies & Visiting Birds, Holiday Card

Vintage artwork by Valentine Thomas Garland features two puppies in their doghouse who are peering curiously but cautiously out the doorway at a group of four small birds on the ground in front of them. Three birds are pecking and scratching the ground while the other has discovered the dogs' water bowl and is perched on the side. The English artist, Valentine Thomas Garland, was a painter of animals, particularly dogs. He lived in Winchester and in London, and exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere. Garland worked in oils and watercolors, but is best known for his oils. There is contradictory information on various websites concerning his birth year and year of death. Some sites list 1868-1914, some list 1868-1903, while others list 1840-1914. This card is blank inside for your own message.
