A vintage illustration by Clara M. Burd from the children's nursery rhyme "Old King Cole." It depicts Old King Cole sitting on his throne with his three fiddlers playing music around him. "Old King Cole was a merry old soul, and a merry old soul was he. He called for his pipe and he called for his bowl and he called for his fiddlers three." The American artist, Clara M. Burd (1873-1933) was born in New York, and studied art in New York City and later in Paris. She is best known for her illustrations for children’s books, but she also illustrated for magazine covers, designed stained glass and murals for churches, and painted children’s portraits and scenes from historical periods. This card is blank inside for your own message.
