Vintage - Mermaids Cheer Dolphin Rescue, Poster

A vintage postcard illustration by Frances Brundage depicts a scene on the high seas where a group of dolphins are trapped behind a fishing net. A man rides a dolphin to their rescue and uses his sword blade to cut the nets and free the dolphins. Nearby, riding a dolphin on the crest of a wave, three mermaids cheer and wave their thanks for the rescue of their fellow sea creatures. The artist, Frances Brundage (1854-1937) was born in Newark, NJ and was best known for illustrations of beautiful, adorable children on postcards, calendars, and holiday cards, particularly Valentines. She later lived and worked in Washington, D.C., Massachusetts and New York. She was ahead of her time in that her diverse artwork also included Native American, African American, Dutch and Irish children. A prolific artist, she also illustrated novels and literary collections. Posters are available in a variety of sizes, however, not all images may fit on all poster sizes.
