Vintage Leonetto Cappiello Absinthe ad Poster
Completely retouched (this is probably the only copy you will find that hasn't got big creases (folds) in the middle.
Original size was 110 x 150 cm (c. 43.3 x 59 inch)
Poster showing a man and woman at a cafe, he smiles and watches as she tastes his drink. Belle époque, between 1905 and 1910.
Leonetto Cappiello is known as the Father of the Modern Advertising Poster. Combining Cheret's joyful exuberance, Toulouse-Lautrec's technique of simplified lines and flat colours and his own background as a caricaturist, he had an original approach to using posters as eye-catching advertising tools.
As a result, his posters are still among the world's most popular.
Today, more homes are decorated with Cappiello's posters than any other single poster artist in the world.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning!
