Vintage Lady with Holly Branches & Wreath, Holiday Card

Vintage artwork by Emile Vernon features a beautiful young lady of yesteryear on a cold winter's day at Christmas time. She's walking down a snow-covered street carrying a bundle of holly branches and a holly wreath with red bow in her arms. Although she's out in the snow, she doesn't wear a coat. She wears a silver-grey dress with white lace bodice and matching grey jacket with black trim on the lapels. A white fox stole is around her neck and matching muff is on her arm. Her brown leather gloves match a brown wide-brimmed hat that's festooned with feather plumes. Small blue flowers tucked into the hat band provide a touch of springtime. Maybe she's taking the holly and wreath as a gift to someone, or maybe she's using them to decorate her own home. The artist, Emile Vernon (1872-1919), was a French fine arts painter who specialised in watercolors. He enjoyed painting women and children in bucolic settings, sometimes with their pets.
