Vintage - Girl Who Wouldn't Brush Her Hair,

This vintage illustration and the poetic stanza with it are from a poem called "The Little Girl Who Would Not Brush Her Hair" as found in the 1860 book by W. Newman titled "Aunt Oddemadodd's Whispers About Certain Little People" which was a humourous book written to teach and instill morals of the time in children. The poem is quite long and can be found by searching for the poem's title on the Internet. It tells of a little girl who refused to brush or comb her hair. She fell asleep under a tree, and while she was sleeping, birds brought moss, twigs and leaves and created nests in her hair. The birds hatched their young and lived in the nest they'd created in the girl's hair. When she awoke, her head felt heavy and she began screaming once she realised her hair was full of birds. She was never able to shake the birds out of her hair. The verse on the front of the card is the last stanza of the poem. The inside of the card is blank on the right side for your own message.

Lovely quality cards. Nice to get a real traditional Chrismassy theme in Australia, not the beach and Australian animals stuff. Excellent, would use again
