A vintage illustration by Clara M. Burd features a beautiful fairy sitting on a garden bench with a book open in her lap. Two young children stand in front of her, in rapt interest in the contents of the book. The fairy may be reading to the children, or teaching them to read. The American artist, Clara M. Burd (1873-1933) was born in New York, and studied art in New York City and later in Paris. She is best known for her illustrations for children’s books, but she also illustrated for magazine covers, designed stained glass and murals for churches, and painted children’s portraits and scenes from historical periods. This card is blank inside for your own message.
