Vintage - Dog Comforts Girl in Time Out,

Vintage artwork titled "In Disgrace" by Charles Burton Barber depicts a scene in a Victorian home where a little girl has been sent to sit on a stool in the corner while she contemplates what she has done wrong. Her pet dog also feels guilty and leans up against the legs of the stool and the girl's feet as if he also deserves the punishment. The English artist, Charles Burton Barber (1845-1894) found great success with his paintings of children and their pets. He was regarded as one of Great Britain’s finest painters of animals. He received commissions from Queen Victoria to paint portraits of herself with her grandchildren and dogs, as well as of the Prince of Wales (Edward VII) and his pets.
