Vintage - Be Kind to Animals - Today & Always,

A vintage poster from the Humane Society features a little girl sitting on the steps of her home with her arms around her pet dog and cat. She sits in between them and smiles as she hugs them tightly to her sides. A bowl and milk pitcher are at her feet. The message on the poster is 'Be Kind to Animals - Today and Always!" These vintage posters, many illustrated by Dennis Morgan, were produced for the American Humane Association’s ‘Be Kind to Animals Week’ in the 1930s. Each Dennis Morgan poster featured a child performing an act of kindness to animals. Several well-known artists of the time contributed artwork for these posters over the first few decades of ‘Be Kind to Animals Week’ which began in 1915 in the U.S. A similar campaign was also underway in England. The printed posters in the U.S. were sent to local humane societies with blank space left at the bottom where the local agency’s information could be added.
