Vintage - A Chivalrous Gentleman,

Vintage artwork by Cesare Agostino Detti features a couple on a walk in the countryside. Sheep and a sheep herder at in the background as the couple continues their walk and comes to a stream of rushing water. The gentleman steps over the stream to the other side, then turns and offers his hand to assist the lady to cross over. The Italian artist from Spoleto, Cesare Agostino Detti (1847-1914) established his reputation as a gifted painter of what is referred to as “costume pictures” because they featured people of bygone days wearing elaborate attire such as for costume balls and other society events. He also painted historical subjects. Detti moved to Paris in the 1870s where he lived until his death. His middle name is sometimes referred to as Agusto, Aguste or Agostino in online biographies.
