Vintage 1908 Literary Digest Poster, Pegasus Poster

This captivating illustration by Dan W. Smith for The Literary Digest in 1908 is a fantastic example of Victorian-age drama and splendour. It depicts Bellerophon riding Pegasus, as told in the ancient Greek myth. This piece, signed "Dan Smith" in 1908, is both rare and obscure. The artist is equally obscure, and other than when he lived (1865-1934), there are few concrete facts. A few other finds by the artist do indicate that his primary subjects were horses, and this cover is a fine example.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
