She was the owner of the Cafe Tambourin, a cabaret (a restaurant or nightclub with a stage for performances) that was frequented by van Gogh and other painters. About the artist: Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Post Impressionist painter whose work was most noteable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty, and bold colour.
