It is native to coastal North Carolina and northern South Carolina, growing in open bogs, and is also a popular cultivated plant. The floral artwork is our unique colour version, based on a drawing by naturalist and artist Isaac Sprague, in The Genera of the Plants of the United States, author Asa Grey, published 1849. Adapted here in colour, the original is in black and white. The original version, as well as two different colour versions, are available in our shop.
