Vase with Three Sunflowers (1888), a well-known Post-Impressionist landscape painting by Vincent van Gogh, is depicted in this art print poster with its delicate golden yellow sunflowers against a blue background. Van Gogh created four sunflower still lifes in August 1888 in Arles' Yellow House. The 14 blooms on a blue background and the 15 blooms on a yellow background, two of the latter's most well-known examples, are currently on display in Munich (in London). Vincent Van Gogh’s brother, Theo, was given a brief description of the iconic sunflower oil painting by Vincent: "3 enormous flowers in a green vase, light background." The flower on the left is a stunning illustration of the petals' whole majesty; it is as large as the pot. Instead of using the typically gloomy backgrounds that accompanied his early still life paintings from Paris, he painted the flowers against a vivid blue backdrop. Van Gogh's use of colour grew more pronounced at Arles. Van Gogh was well known for his passionate adoration of flowers and the natural world. Also, there were hints that Van Gogh was developing a greater fascination with Japanese art and patterns.
