Unicorn Land Poster

Unicorn Land Poster

In mediaeval lore, the alicorn, the spiralled horn of the unicorn (the word "Alicorn" can also be the name for a winged unicorn/horned pegasus), is said to be able to heal and neutralise poisons. Many horned animals, such as rhinoceri were hunted during the Middle Ages and their horns were sold as "unicorn" horns. This virtue is derived from Ctesias's reports on the unicorn in India (though this may refer to the rhinoceros) The ability of unicorn horns to neutralise poison has been touted since the time of Aristotle. The English ambassador to the French court was treated in 1596 with medicine containing "musk, amber, gold, pearl and unicorn’s horn", the efficacy of the ingredients being directly related to their rarity and expense. Modern fantasy fiction tends to perpetuate the mediaeval notion of a unicorn as a beast with magical qualities or powers. Harry Potter Glossary Unicorns are one horned white horse like animals that live in the Forbidden Forest. Their blood has magical properties that can keep a person alive, but at a cost. Forbidden Forest The Forbidden Forest is the forest that surrounds Hogwarts. It is the home to many mythical and dangerous creatures. Hogwarts Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry Wizarding school that young witches or wizards enter after they turn 11. It was founded by Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw, all of whom have houses named after them. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a fictional school of magic that is the main setting of the Harry Potter series. There are two other schools of magic mentioned by name in the Harry Potter novels: one, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, is located in France, while the Durmstrang Magical Institute is assumed to be located in Northern Europe (since its uniform includes thick furs, and since the students found the British climate more appealing). The name of a possible school, the Salem Witches' Institute, suggests that it may be found in North America. This organisation is in fact only mentioned in relation to a number of middle-aged witches in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and J. K. Rowling has not confirmed if it is indeed a school of magic in the United States. Goblet of Fire also mentions an unnamed school in Brazil.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
