They bear a unique testimony to the development over some 10'000 years of the pre-agricultural yet sedentary Jomon culture and its complex spiritual belief system and rituals. The Ōmori Katsuyama Site is an archaeological site contains the ruins of a late Jomon period settlement. The stone circle is elliptical, with a length of 48.5 m and a width of 39.1 m. The circle is designed such that it is aligned to the point where the sun sets over the summit of Mt. Iwaki on the winter solstice.
