【Maruni Futatsubiki】The Hikiryo crest is derived from the curtain dyeing that has been around since the Genpei period. The military curtain used in the battlefield was made by sewing five pieces of fabric together, and the one with the middle piece dyed black was called 'nakaguro'. This is one 'hiki ryō'. The 'futatsu hiki ryō' has the fabric layered from top to bottom in white, black, white, black, and white... However, there is no clear theory on what the Hikiryo crest is designed to represent (from 'Reading Family Crests' by Toshio Nosaka).
