About This Design
Two of Pentacles
Traditionally, the Two of Pentacles is represented by a juggler who, according to some interpreters, is another form of the Fool or even the Magician. Combined, these notions may imply the skill of balancing opinions, attitudes, and circumstances to serve a single purpose.
Imagine a blooming flower that blossoms not only when the time is right, but when you choose to make it so. Not entirely impossible — yet this is not the essence of the Two of Pentacles in Astore Faber’s deck.
In The Tarot of the Fool, balance is achieved through catching or noticing natural laws. It is through observation, adaptation, and small adjustments that one finds equilibrium when the Two of Pentacles appears.
One may argue that the meaning of the traditional card is essentially the same. And it may be so. Still, in The Tarot of the Fool, one aspect is emphasized over another: mindfulness and adaptation rather than force and manipulation.
These descriptions may suggest a drastic difference, but it is not.
A manipulator still adjusts; the adjuster still manipulates — even if only their own thoughts and feelings. The distinction lies in the energy of the two paths: one breaks, the other bends.
Now, let me tell you a little about the colours of the Two of Pentacles.
Red is the world of crisis and passions within which one seeks balance.
The peach‑yellow is the dream of comfort.
The blue, on which the balancing contraption rests, is the soft, mindful energy mentioned earlier.
Yellows prevail in the coins — fitting for the suit of Pentacles.
Then we have whites and grounding purplish‑pinks.
Together, these combinations symbolise the human tendency to seek both material and spiritual satisfaction.
The coins are placed within a circle of bright pink (gentle memories) and a yellow circle (ideas and fantasies). It is also worth noting that the mechanism itself resembles a flame — though an artificial, safer flame of a balanced mind.
There may be many discussions about nuances, potential contradictions, and individual mythological systems when exploring the world of Tarot. Many more words could be said about this particular card, both within Astore Faber’s mythology and its traditional roots. But let us retire and contemplate what has been said.
