Nezu Shrine, which gave its name to the surrounding area, has extensive grounds which include a large carp pond, a frequently photographed tunnel of red torii gates, a famous azalea garden and many original and richly decorated buildings that have been designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan. The design of the streetlights which line the Shinobazu Street, the main street through Nezu, reflects the history and traditional character of the area.
