Tintern Abbey Poster
Tintern Abbey, nestled in the Wye Valley of Monmouthshire, Wales, is a hauntingly beautiful and well-preserved medieval abbey with a history that dates back to the 12th century. Founded by Walter de Clare in 1131, the abbey was originally established for Cistercian monks who followed a strict, contemplative way of life. Over the centuries, Tintern Abbey flourished as a center of spiritual devotion, education, and economic activity. The monks, through their dedication and hard work, developed the surrounding land, engaging in agriculture, milling, and other enterprises that contributed to the prosperity of the abbey and its community.
The abbey's architectural grandeur reflects the transition from Romanesque to Gothic styles, with intricate detailing and soaring arches. Tintern Abbey faced a significant setback in 1536 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII, leading to its abandonment. The once-thriving monastery fell into disrepair, but its picturesque ruins attracted the attention of poets and artists during the Romantic era, most notably William Wordsworth, who composed the famous poem "Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey" in 1798, capturing the sublime beauty of the site.
In the 20th century, efforts were made to preserve and protect Tintern Abbey. Today, the ruins stand as a testament to the medieval religious life and the enduring power of human creativity. Visitors to Tintern Abbey can explore its atmospheric remains, admire the graceful arches and stone tracery, and reflect on the abbey's rich history as a place of spiritual contemplation and cultural inspiration. The site is now managed by Cadw, the historic environment service of the Welsh Government, ensuring that future generations can continue to appreciate the beauty and historical significance of Tintern Abbey.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
