Three Sparrows in a Bamboo Circle Ceramic Tile

The Kajuji family, one of the most distinguished families among court nobles, used this crest. So prestigious was this crest, second only to the peony crest of the Konoe family, that it was not allowed to be used by any other family indiscriminately. The Kajuji family only granted the use of this crest to powerful families such as the Nagao, Date, and Mogami. As a result, the crest is still mainly found in areas where these families were based. Interestingly, the warrior families that were granted this crest by the Kajuji family used a version with two sparrows, in contrast to the three sparrows used by the court nobles.
