Thisbe by John William Waterhouse, oil on canvas, 1909, is a vintage painting of a young woman in an interior leaning with her ear to a crack in the wall. The figure wears a long, bright red patterned dress as she listens intently. The subject is taken from stories from ancient Greek and Babylonian mythology of young star-crossed lovers whose families forbid them to wed and could only speak in whispers through the walls of their houses. The Pre-Raphaelite artist Waterhouse paints a timeless and memorable image of an archetype of the forlorn young lady who yearns to be with her betrothed.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
