The Screaming Lightbulb T-Shirt

Munch created four versions of The Scream, two in paint and two in pastels, additionally, he created a lithograph stone of the composition in 1895 from which approximately four dozen prints were made before the original stone was resurfaced by the printer in Munch's absence. The image is depicted as wracked with anxiety and uncertainty and these emotions are often felt by people when subjected to significant change. The simple light bulb was basically the same functional design that went unchanged for decades and then suddenly "progress". Progress in many forms can instigate dramatic changes and this adapted image shows the fear and shock of progress in an amusing way. I always thought that the original distorted head reminded me of a standard light bulb and how suddenly it was deemed to need a dramatic redesign. This seemed to tie in with Munch's emotions, so I decided to create a picture that reflected that.
