The work depicts the apocryphal story of the insane Roman emperor Heliogabalus smothering his dinner guest in a wave of pink and red rose petals. The work is tremendously detailed as dinner guest lounge on pillows and sit at a table laden with fruit. A beautiful gift for fans of Roman History, British Artists, and Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema.
