The Potato Eaters (1885) by Vincent van Gogh is a vintage Post Impressionism fine art daily life painting and is considered one of van Gogh's first great works of art. Van Gogh said he wanted to depict peasants as they really were. He deliberately chose coarse and ugly models, thinking that they would be natural and unspoiled in his finished work. Potato Eaters depicts a family of farmers sitting around a table eating dinner.
