The Lion at Home (with Lioness and Lion Cubs) Metal Ornament

This design features a painting by Rosa Bonheur (1822–1899), who was a French artist best known as a painter of animals. It shows a family of lions relaxing together in the wild. There is a large male lion together with his female lioness. THere are also three young lion cubs resting close to their mother, the lioness. The lion and lioness are on guard over their small cubs: their appearance appears to be aggressive and they are watching out for predators and other risks, but they are also at ease as a family. The creatures possess a regal poise. The original artwork was painted in 1881.
