The Last Lantern Before Dawn, Plate RH-WC-016 Poster

Collection The Watercolors of Roadstand Hollow Series Series 1 – Tales of Roadstand Hollow Book Book 1 – The Wishkeeper's Corner Illustration Title The Last Lantern Before Dawn ________________________________________ Collection Theme Every ending quietly prepares the way for a new beginning. As the final lantern continues to burn before sunrise, it reminds us that hope never truly sleeps—it simply keeps watch until a new day begins. ________________________________________ Exhibition Description The Last Lantern Before Dawn concludes the visual journey of Book One with a scene of profound stillness. The streets of Roadstand Hollow rest beneath the final hours of night as the stars slowly fade into a pale blue horizon. Every shop has gone dark except for a single lantern glowing outside the Wishkeeper's Corner, faithfully illuminating the quiet street one last time before the morning arrives. A gentle mist drifts along the cobblestones, softening the outlines of familiar buildings while the first hints of dawn touch the distant hills. The village is peaceful, untouched by hurry or noise. It is a moment suspended between yesterday and tomorrow—a reminder that every story, no matter how complete, leaves behind the promise of another waiting to begin. The lone lantern becomes the heart of the composition. It burns not because someone forgot to extinguish it, but because Roadstand Hollow has always believed that someone may still be searching for home. Even in the quietest hours, the Hollow leaves a light burning for those who have not yet arrived. Within The Watercolors of Roadstand Hollow, this sixteenth plate serves as a graceful epilogue to the collection. It offers neither farewell nor conclusion, but a peaceful assurance that the Hollow remains exactly where it has always been—waiting with kindness for the next traveller. ________________________________________ Visual Elements The Wishkeeper's Corner before sunrise, single glowing blue lantern, mist-covered cobblestone street, fading stars, pale dawn sky, quiet storefronts, flower boxes resting in shadow, distant rolling hills, weathered wooden benches, soft morning haze. ________________________________________ Mood Peace, reflection, hope, renewal, quiet anticipation, comfort, timelessness, gentle farewell. ________________________________________ Colour Palette Midnight blue, pale dawn gold, lantern amber, mist grey, soft lavender, weathered cedar, cool slate, moss green, pearl white. ________________________________________ Artistic Style Traditional watercolor featuring luminous transparent washes, subtle atmospheric layering, delicate dawn lighting, expressive wet-on-wet skies, painterly architectural detail, timeless realism, and softly diffused illumination. ________________________________________ Symbolism The final lantern symbolises unwavering hope, faithful welcome, and the enduring promise that kindness remains even when the world is quiet. The approaching sunrise represents renewal, fresh beginnings, and the certainty that every ending opens the door to another journey. ________________________________________ Collection Significance As the sixteenth and concluding companion plate of Book One, The Last Lantern Before Dawn provides a quiet visual epilogue to The Watercolors of Roadstand Hollow. Rather than ending with celebration, it concludes with peace, reinforcing the timeless rhythm of the Hollow—where every sunset gives way to another sunrise, and every completed story becomes the beginning of another. ________________________________________ Future Uses Museum exhibition closing piece, collector's fine-art print, coffee-table art book epilogue, hardcover endpaper illustration, website gallery finale, commemorative anniversary print, inspirational wall art, gallery catalogue closing page, limited-edition signed collector's print, farewell exhibition poster. ________________________________________ Role in Collection Serving as the visual epilogue of The Watercolors of Roadstand Hollow, this illustration gently closes the first gallery while looking towards the future. It leaves viewers with the comforting thought that Roadstand Hollow never truly says goodbye. Its lantern continues to glow through the darkest hours, patiently awaiting every traveller who has yet to discover the village where wishes are remembered, kindness is never forgotten, and every road eventually finds its way home.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
