"The Holly and the Ivy" is the name of a Christmas carol we always sang at my grandparents' house when we were little girls (from the Cornish "Sans Day Carol"). Both ivy and holly of course are often associated with the holiday season since they are evergreen plants often used for decoration. In this case, the two have taken the form of fairy-like angels, sitting in a winter forest. Cute!! I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
