The George Washington Bridge At Sunset Poster
John Alsdorf is a photographer in Washington Heights NY in Upper Manhattan who has the good fortune of having a full view of this bridge from his window. He did a series of the bridge at different times of the day. My interpretation is done in pastels on black paper while the sky was fiery and would eventually change into a serene blue blanket across the horizon. The bridge is near the sites of Fort Washington (NY) and Fort Lee (NJ), which were fortified positions used by George Washington and his American forces in his unsuccessful attempt to deter the British occupation of NYC in 1776. The GWB connects Washington Heights in Manhattan to Fort Lee, Bergen County, NJ, Interstate 95 and US Route 1/9 cross the river via the bridge. You will see the bridge in movies like "How To Marry A Millionaire, The 7 Ups, Aftershock: Earthquake in NY and The Other Guys. Even the video games "Metal Gear Sokid 2 & "Sons of Liberty" use the bridge in the intro title. It was opened to traffic in October 25, 1931.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
