The Cricket Jury Coffee Mug

For some reason when I lived in Brookline, MA, I was continually selected for Jury Duty. One year I was selected to be on a Grand Jury and at the time this happened, the length of service was for six months! I phoned my manager and begged him to call in and say that I was indispensable and should be excused, but he laughed and said this task would be good for me. It got worse. When the Assistant District Attorney mentioned a secretary would need to be selected from our group of 24 individuals, we had to stand up and introduce ourselves plus say what we did for a living. I was actually working in the advertising department of The Christian Science Monitor. I tried to describe my job in terms that would make me not a candidate for secretary, but when the A.D.A. heard this he exclaimed "The Christian Science Monitor? It's accurate, reliable and dependable and I am a subscriber!" When a vote was taken, I got the job by a landslide. Such was my introduction to the wacky world of law and jury duty.
