The Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci, Christmas Holiday Card

Easy to customise Christmas card, just add your names! The Annunciation (aka The Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary or Annunciation of the Lord) c. 1472-1475 by artists Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea del Verrocchio is a vintage Renaissance Era fine art religious portrait painting. The Christian celebration of the announcement by the archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary Magdalene that she would become the mother of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Despite being a virgin, Mary would miraculously conceive a child who would be called the Son of God. Gabriel told Mary to name her son Jesus. The angel holds a Madonna lily, a symbol of Mary's virginity and of the city of Florence. It is supposed that Leonardo originally copied the wings from those of a bird in flight, but they have since been lengthened by a later artist. The marble table, in front of the Virgin, probably quotes the tomb of Piero and Giovanni de' Medici in the Basilica of San Lorenzo, Florence, which Verrocchio had sculpted during this same period. Some immature hesitancies are usually noted, especially the Virgin's ambiguous spatial relation to the desk and the marble on which it rests.

The card itself brought a smile to the face of its recipient and has quickly become a favourite. It has pride of place on the mantle shelf above the fire. The quality of the card, the printing and the overall composition are all excellent.

My grandson liked the card. Your cards are always great quality. I enjoyed being able to use a photo of him in the card, as these cards are keepsakes. The only disappointment was that I couldn’t get a gamer themed card. He is a very passionate gamer.
